University School is a vibrant independent day school for boys in Northeast Ohio. Established in 1890, University School has campuses in Hunting Valley and Shaker Heights. The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an independent charitable trust registered under the Indian Trusts Act. ISKCON Bangalore society is the settlor of the trust, The Akshaya Patra Foundation.
Students Krivam Rastogi, and Nikhil Yalavarthy spearheaded a youth-led initiative, "Miles for Meals," to provide meals for underprivileged children in India. In its 4th year, the boys, assisted by classmates Tanay Bhandari, Taahir Shaikh, and Aneesh Tamaskar, more than doubled their initial goal, reaching $23,600.
The students were recognized at the Akshaya Patra Annual Gala at Playhouse Square and featured in India News International - Ohio's Asian-Indian Newspaper. Because of their civic engagement, nearly 1,200 Indian students will receive meals for an entire school year. Well done, boys and girls!
